Brooke Bond Birds, Butterflies & Moths Frances Pitt British Birds (white card) 1954 Frances Pitt British Birds (white card) 1954 20 - This set of 20 Frances Pitt British Birds dating from 1954 was the very first set ever issued by Brooke Bond with their packets of tea. This was prepared and designed by Frances Pitt a well-known British natural history expert and pioneer of wildlife photography. These show birds in their natural surroundings and include both hard to spot species like the bittern, hen harrier and avocet as well as common garden birds like the robin or blackbird. As you would expect from such an expert the backs are full of information and very descriptive, for instance describing the way a heron deals with its fish dinner she says “He holds it kicking in his bill for a minute, water drops flying, then somehow turns it so that it lies with its head down his throat, gives a gulp and swallows it.” A lovely little set for any nature lover. Cards size 68 x 36mm
