She made her stage debut in 1926 as a dancer in Broadway impresario Ziegfeld’s ‘No Foolin’ and appeared as an extra in films for many years until the turning point in her career when she began dating Charlie Chaplin. He cast her as his leading lady in ‘Modern Times’ in 1936 and this led to further films such as ‘The Young in Heart’. She was considered for the Scarlett O’Hara role in Gone with the Wind and starred successfully with Bob Hope and Fred Astaire, but largely retired after her marriage to Erich Remarque. The numbered backs give a history of her life and career. Size 68 x 36mm.

Skybox (USA) Films, TV, Sci Fi & Comic Art Pocahontas (Disney Film) 1997 Pocahontas (Disney Film) 1997 LT102 - In 1995 Walt Disney released an animated musical drama loosely based on the real-life story of Pocahontas who historically encounters Englishman John Smith and settlers from Jamestown and these cards contain scenes from the film, puzzle cards, character cards, Wisdom of Grandmother Willow cards. two checklists and twelve pop-out cards which turn into stand-up models of well-known characters. The backs of card numbers 1 to 54 and 64 to 73 tell the story, whilst 55 to 63 make up into a sectional picture of main stars Pocahontas and John. The character cards are backed by text about the relevant person or creature, whilst the Wisdom cards contain quotes from Grandmother Willow a mystical tree spirit. The film itself attracted mixed reviews with some finding the historical changes and racial overtones unpalatable, but all agreed that the animation was stunning. Inkworks (USA) Films, TV, Sci Fi & Comic Art Small Soldiers The Film 1998 Small Soldiers The Film 1998 LT90 - Small Soldiers, big film, Universal’s 1998 movie was a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. Real actors interplayed with computer-generated characters in this story about toys with artificial intelligence which have been designed to fight and end up attacking humans. Basically defence contractors take over a toy factory and encourage them to develop small soldier toys with intelligent micro-chips enabling them to learn and adapt so they can take on other toys known as Gorgonites. Designed for military use some of these toys end up getting into the hands of children and suddenly their neighbourhood is caught up in the warfare, finding that just because they are small does not mean they are not deadly. Cards 1 to 72 are all scenes from the film with story text on the reverse then numbers 73 to 89 introduce us to the characters both human and toy with some of their backstory on the reverse and the last card is a checklist.
