Askeys Miscellaneous Trade Cards People and Places 1968 People and Places 1968 25 - This colourful little set depicts scenes from around the world so for instance we see a map of Japan with girls in traditional dress or the Islands of Samoa with native dancers. Among the other people and places featured are Masai Warriors of East Africa, South Americans of the Andes Mountains, cowboys in the South of France, Beduins of the Middle East, Eskimos of the Arctic regions. There are some curious inclusions though like the card for India which is a vast country is full of colourful regional differences, but is represented only by a Mahout and his elephant, also considering there is a whole world to choose from why include a man and his coracle from Ireland or a bullock sleigh in Madeira and the card for Salvador does not even feature people just an erupting volcano. That said there is plenty to enjoy about these cards which are backed by interesting facts about the regions featured. This set was also issued by Badshah Tea, Barratt & Co., Browne Bros., Clover Dairies, Gowers & Burgons, Hitchman’s Dairies, Lamberts Tea, Ringtons Ltd and Wilcocks & Wilcocks and these are the same except for the company name on the reverse. The cards are size 65 x 35mm.

Fax Pax Miscellaneous Trade Cards Fables 1988 (1995 redesign presentation box) Fables 1988 (1995 redesign presentation box) L36 - This set of 36 cards with rounded corners feature modern translations of well-known fables, mainly Aesop’s classics, charmingly illustrated by Gesine Mahoney. The pastel pictures are beautifully drawn and the backs tell the fable and give the moral at the bottom. For instance The Dog and his Bone shows the dog and his reflection in the water and the back tells the tale with the moral at the end explained i.e. If you are too greedy you may end up with nothing. I must admit I had not heard of some of these like the Pedler and the Donkey or the Dog in the Manger, but it’s a fascinating set beautifully drawn. Size 102 x 64mm

B.T. Ltd Miscellaneous Trade Cards Holiday Resorts 1963 Holiday Resorts 1963 25 - These cards contain charming colour pictures of various holiday destinations with ten cards devoted to places in Europe such as Portofino, Lugano, Salzburg, Monaco etc. and the remainder are views of England and Scotland, but surprisingly there no cards for Wales or Ireland. This set was also produced by Amalgamated Tobacco in 1957 and Risca Travel Agency in 1966. A lovely set with cards size 68 x 36mm.

Amalgamated Tobacco Miscellaneous Cigarette Cards Nature Series 1958 Nature Series 1958 25 - This series was originally issued in Mauritius for export only with ‘Mills’ cigarettes and contains colour pictures of creatures or plants. In a break from the normal rather than look at animals this shines the light on insects, amphibians, arachnids etc. For instance we see different varieties of Sea Slugs, the birth of frogs and newts, the world’s largest flower, jelly fish, a giant crab, a special birds nest, the use of colours as warnings in reptiles, corals, minute life in ponds and streams, the remarkable sight of driver ants attacking a snake, a sperm whale catching a squid, how water spiders use their diving bell, magnified water mites, star fish and the stages in the birth of a dragon fly. The blue text on the back gives plenty of explanation concerning each of these wonders making these educational as well as attractive cards. This was also issued by Sketchley Cleaners in 1960 and Sweetule Products in 1958 both of which are titled Nature Series. These cards are size 68 x 36mm.
