The Wild West Back in Blue 1960
The Wild West Back in Blue 1960 25 - This excellent colour set pictures the life and difficulties of living in the old American west where the natives were often hostile, the journey long and the risk of cattle stampeding or drowning in swollen rivers was high. We meet characters such as Buffalo Bill, Custer, Geronimo, Wild Bill Hickok, Davy Crockett, Jesse James and Sitting Bull, follow cowboys as they round up and brand cattle or gamble in a saloon, see a gold prospector at work and look at how native tribes lived. The numbered backs contain plenty of interesting facts. Plenty to appeal to any fan of the old west. This set is also issued by Barratt both with heavy serif on its title. Size 65 x 35mm.

Roy Rogers In Old Amarillo 1955
Roy Rogers In Old Amarillo 1955 M24 - Cowboy films were still all the rage in the early 1950s and these cards reproduce in black and white some of the action from the popular film Roy Rogers in Old Amarillo, with the story told on the backs. Known as the “King of the Cowboys” American actor and singer Roy Rogers was actually born in the city as Leonard Franklin Slye, but changed his name to Roy Rogers when he got his first cowboy role. His character had a TV show of the same name between 1951 and 1957 and he appeared in many western films. Such was his popularity that the Roy Rogers name was used for all sorts of endorsements including these “Roy Rogers Bubble Gum” cards and even a restaurant chain. Roy was always the good guy who with his trusty horse Trigger, dog Bullet and a number of different sidekicks, sometimes including real-life wife Dale Evans, always defeated the baddies usually ending the show with a song. In this film the baddies are a greedy landowner and a ruthless gunman who are trying to cheat locals out of their property, but needless to say Roy puts everything right. This series was also produced under the name Roy Rogers Gum but without any text on the backs. Pure nostalgia from a time when good guys always wore white hats. Size 64 x 44mm

In this film he played a horse transporter hired by Doris (played by his real-life wife Dale Evans) to transport her prize racehorse. When the horse is stolen she suspects Roy, but in fact the baddie is one of her employees who is after her ranch. Needless to say Roy puts everything right after plenty of fights and action shots. This series was also produced under the name Roy Rogers Gum but without any text on the backs. Pure nostalgia from a time when good guys always wore white hats. Size 64 x 44mm

Western Films and Their Stars 1st Series 2013
Western Films and Their Stars 1st Series 2013 LT24 - From the heyday of the Western as a film genre, these wonderfully evocative black and white scenes from Hollywood movies in cinemas between 1949 and 1958 bring back memories of gun-slingers, sheriffs, saloons and the U.S. cavalry which thrilled audiences in a largely pre-television era. We see James Stewart as The Man From Laramie, Audie Murphy in The Cimarron Kid, John Wayne in Hondo, Gene Autry in Indian Territory and Roy Rogers in North of the Great Divide. The wild west at its best, and the backs outline the plot and list the cast. Size 89 x 64mm.
