Teofani Military - General Series Past and Present Weapons of War 1938 (reprint 2001) Past and Present Weapons of War 1938 (reprint 2001) 24 - These are reprints of the set originally produced in 1938 The subjects are \'paired\' with an example from the past being followed by one from the present - that is 1938. It is amazing how close the analagies are. Even the tank had its prototype in the \'Tortoise\' of the Middle Ages the only difference being an improvement in mechanical effectiveness. Obviously there have been many further advances in weaponry in the seventy years or so since these cards were issued and the excellent colour pictures and informative texts have the additional interest of allowing us to compare present-day armaments with what was state of the art in 1938. Size 68 x 37mm.

Gallaher Motoring Motor Cars 1934 (reprint 1995) Motor Cars 1934 (reprint 1995) 25 - This set was originally issued in 1934 as a set of 24, but when these were reprinted in 1995 an additional title card was included making it a set of 25. The title card tells us this was included to “enable you to display the set in a standard 25 card frame if required”. It is easy to see why you might wish to display these as the cards contain lovely colour pictures of old motors with their logos separately displayed at the top. Included are the Alvis “Speed Twenty” saloon, the Riley Nine Stream-lined “Kestral” saloon, an Austin Seven Saloon De Luxe, Singer Fourteen Continental saloon, Wolseley E.W. Daytona Special, Talbot “102” sports saloon, Bentley 3½ Litre, 12.8hp Sunbeam “Dawn”, Armstrong-Siddeley “15” saloon, Daimler “15” sports coupe, Rolls-Royce 40/50 limousine, Morris Ten Four saloon, Invicta Saloon De Luxe etc. The backs give plenty of information about the vehicle including all the specifications a petrol-head could want. An attractive set with cards size 68 x 36mm.

Gallaher Reprinted Series The Great War Victoria Cross Heroes 6th Series 1915 (reprint 2017) The Great War Victoria Cross Heroes 6th Series 1915 (reprint 2017) 25 - As the title suggests this is a 6th set of Victoria Cross winners from the Great War. The heroes are pictured in colour with a Victoria Cross medal superimposed. Among this batch are Lieut. W.L Robinson who won his award for bringing down an airship, Rev. W.R.F Addison who carried a wounded man to safety, Corpl. G. Sanders who with 30 men held a position for 36 hours without food or water, Sergt. C.C. Castleton and Lieut. G.S. Cather who on separate occasions ventured into ‘No Man’s Land’ under intense fire to rescue the wounded and were killed, Pte. J Hutchinson who not only shot to enemy soldiers, but covered the rest of his regiment whilst the wounded were removed safely, Pte. Albert Hill who attacked the enemy capturing two prisoners, Pte. M. O’Mera who carried ammunition and bombs through heavily shelled trenches and Pte. W.F. McFadzean who saved his comrades by throwing himself on top of exploding bombs which had slipped into the trench. The backs tell their stories of courage and sacrifice. A fitting tribute to mark Armistice Day. Size 68 x 36mm.

Players Flowers and the Garden Hidden Beauties (Plant Life Highly Magnified) 1929 Hidden Beauties (Plant Life Highly Magnified) 1929 25 - Back in 1929 Players produced a series of 25 Hidden Beauties and the back of card 1 in the set explains that “objects which to our eyes may appear commonplace, uninteresting, insignificant or dull often reveal unexpected loveliness when seen under the microscope" and ”Hidden Beauties are often present where least expected.” As promised there are some fascinating close up colour images from the natural world like the leg-combs of a spider, periwinkle tongue, live mould, a maise leaf slice and flower dust (pollen). The fantastic pictures on the front are backed by a full explanation on the reverse so we learn that the air contains spores which produce plants when they find a good home so if cheese is left exposed to the ai.r it will eventually become mouldy or that as well as climbing and capturing prey spiders use their leg-combs for cleaning of both themselves and their web. This interesting set would look good in any collection. Size 68 x 36mm
