This set covers 911 models produced between 1978 and 1998, starting with the 911sc ‘ world car’ built to various specifications to meet different countries’ regulations, through to the 996 coupe – the fifth generation of the 911 series bristling with digital technology and described as an ‘idiot-proof’ driving machine. Anonymous Stamps, Coins & Banknotes British Coins and Costumes 1958 British Coins and Costumes 1958 25 - This is an interesting set which details the history of British money from the ring money of the ancient Celts to the George II shilling, but as well as picturing the coins we also see an example of the type of dress worn in the period. So for instance we see a Roman coin of Augustus and a citizen in his toga or an Edward IV angel coin accompanied by a man in a suit of armour. Among the interesting coins is a William and Mary shilling which pictures both heads on the coin and a Cromwell sixpence which is extremely rare. The numbered backs give a brief write up about the coin. This set was also produced with an advert for “Mills Filtertips” on the back issued by Amalgamated Tobacco. The cards are size 68 x 36mm.

Badshah Tea Miscellaneous Trade Cards People and Places 1968 People and Places 1968 25 - This colourful little set depicts scenes from around the world so for instance we see a map of Japan with girls in traditional dress or the Islands of Samoa with native dancers. Among the other people and places featured are Masai Warriors of East Africa, South Americans of the Andes Mountains, cowboys in the South of France, Beduins of the Middle East and Eskimos of the Arctic regions. There are some curious inclusions though like the card for India which is a vast country is full of colourful regional differences but is represented only by a Mahout and his elephant. Also considering there is a whole world to choose from why include a man and his coracle from Ireland or a bullock sleigh in Madeira and the card for Salvador does not even feature people just an erupting volcano. That said there is plenty to enjoy about these cards which are backed by interesting facts about the regions featured. This set was also issued by Askeys, Barratt & Co, Browne Bros., Clover Dairies, Gowers & Burgons, Hitchman’s Dairies, Lamberts Tea, Ringtons Ltd and Wilcocks & Wilcocks and these are the same except for the company name on the reverse. The cards are size 65 x 35mm.

A-1 Dollisdale Ships & Shipping Do You Know about Shipping and Trees 1962 Do You Know about Shipping and Trees 1962 25 - There have been plenty of sets issued on the “Do You Know” theme, but this one is unusual as it concentrates on facts about shipping and trees only. We don’t know why these two subjects which don’t seem connected, but it is actually a very interesting set. The colour pictures show us inside a wheelhouse, how lifeboats are lowered, different types of beacon, how whales are hauled aboard a whaling ship, the difference between the male and female flowers of the Larch, uses of the Elder, lights used on ships at night, details of the Sweet Chestnut and the colours of the flowers of the Wayfaring Tree. The backs are full of fascinating facts and tell us that these were originally issued in packets of tea and an album was obtainable from “your roundsman or local A-1 Shop”. The cards are size 68 x 36mm.
