Aston Cards Motoring Wimbledon Speedway Stars 1929-1939 (2002) Wimbledon Speedway Stars 1929-1939 (2002) LT24 - The stars in this set were all professional motorcycle speedway riders for Wimbledon Dons who raced at Wimbledon Stadium. These cards were issued when the ‘Dons’ had just reformed after an eleven year absence and picture riders from the golden age of the sport such as Australian Vic Duggan, Eric French, American Benny Kaufman, German Alfred Rumrich, Ron Howes, Wal Phillips, Syd Jackson, Vic Huxley who had transferred to Harrigay but returned to Wimbledon when the club resigned mid-season, “Cyclone” Billy Lamont and Jim Kempster. Sadly the backs contain no information on the riders except for name, date, club & country. The rest of the space is an advert for Thursday race nights and the slogan “Up the Dons”. Sadly by 2005 the club closed for good. Cards size 92 x 64mm.

J.F.Sporting Collectibles Motoring Stars of Bradford Speedway 2004 Stars of Bradford Speedway 2004 LT24 - Black and white pictures of Bradford riders, mostly from the immediate post-war period, but in the case of Neil Evitts, up to 1990 when the Dukes closed. Among the big names is Max Grosskreutz who we have seen elsewhere, the Australian came to England in 1923 to ride for Lea Bridge and starred for Australia in the first test held in England, before joining Bellue Vue, retired in 1936 to manage Norwich and finished up at Bradford after the war. J.F.Sporting Collectibles Motoring Wembley Speedway Stars 2nd Series 2000 Wembley Speedway Stars 2nd Series 2000 LT21 - The majority of these twenty-one stars were riding in the late 1920s and the 1930s, but a few date from the 1960s. Some we have met before in other J F Sporting sets, names from Speedway’s hall of fame such as Ove Fundin, Billy Lemont and Lionel Van Praag who was World Champion at Wembley in 1936. J F Sporting’s text says he “served in the R.A.A.F during the war and was awarded the George Medal.” Good black and white pictures with descriptive backs. Size 90 x 64mm
