Brooke Bond (Canada) Brooke Bond Tea Card Issues Transportation Through the Ages (Back top line in black) 1967 Ref CU10 Transportation Through the Ages (Back top line in black) 1967 Ref CU10 48 - This excellent series covers all manor of transport from an elephant howdah to the Apollo space rocket which we are told would be “America’s first manned circumlunar flight” and “scheduled for completion by the end of the 1960s”. We follow the development of transport from animal drawn chariots and carts, sailing boats, balloons and Stephenson’s Rocket through to modern diesel locomotives, ships and cars. Included amongst the cars is “Bluebird” in which Donald Campbell broke the world land speed record in 1964. Elsewhere in the set we see a Sno-Cat used to explore Antarctica in 1957, a Westland ‘Whirlwind’ helicopter of the Queen’s Flight, a Boeing 727 airliner, a hydrofoil, hovercraft and nuclear submarine. The lovely colour drawings are accompanied by interesting text on the reverse in both English and French. These cards were issued in Red Rose & Blue Ribbon tea and coffee and an album was also issued to accompany the set. Cards size 68 x 36mm.

Brooke Bond Brooke Bond Tea Card Issues History of the Motor Car blue back 1968 History of the Motor Car blue back 1968 50 - This set contains superb artwork by Kenneth Rush illustrating road vehicles from the days of steam power through to the latest (1960s) high performance racing cars, with Peter Hull’s descriptive backs brim full of interesting facts. Included, of course, is the Mini or more correctly, as card no. 46 states, Morris Mini Minor, which we are told was the “first really revolutionary mass-produced British car whose remarkable features were its unique front-wheel drive design with a transverse engine enclosing the gearbox in the crankcase, tiny 10-inch wheels and all-independent variable rubber suspension.” If you prefer speed to small and practical then you will appreciate some of the other cars in this set such as the 1935 ‘Bluebird’ in which Malcom Campbell broke the 300mph speed record, a Ferrari P4 with its V12 engine, the Cooper-Climax Grand Prix winner from 1958, the sleek 1948 Jaguar XK120, a 1938 Alfa Romeo and 1936 BMW etc. This set was re-issued by Brooke Bond in 1974 with black text on the backs. An ideal set for any car enthusiast. Size 68 x 36mm.
