J.F.Sporting Collectibles Football Football Fallen Heroes of WWI 2014 Football Fallen Heroes of WWI 2014 LT24 - J. F. Sporting Collectibles have marked the centenary of World War 1 with this excellent set of 24 cards of footballers who died in that conflict. Each card has a red poppy in the right hand corner and either a colour regimental crest or medal on the left, except for card no. 24, a team picture of Heart of Midlothian, which just has a poppy. The back of this card explains that of the 16 players who enlisted 6 were killed in action. The cards include Bradford City player Donald Bell who won the Victoria Cross, inside-forward Jimmy Spiers killed at Passchendale, George Scott one of three Clapton Orient players killed and Pat Flanagan the Arsenal inside-right who whilst working as a driver died of dysentery in German East Africa. The card backs give details of clubs and regiments as well as place of death and where buried. A worthy tribute to the players who made the ultimate sacrifice. Size 89 x 64mm.
