Brooke Bond Brooke Bond Tea Card Issues Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles Standard Set 1991 Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles Standard Set 1991 12 - These cards which were originally issued with packs of tea and picture some of the characters created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird for their popular comic. Originally created as a one-off the comics proved hugely popular and led to a cartoon series as well as films. The story centres around four turtles who after being exposed to some mutant waste are turned into human like characters. They are adopted by a ninja rat known as Splinter who looks after them and trains them as fighters. He names them after famous painters Michaelangelo, Donatello, Raphael and Leonardo. Together they fight off the evil Krang and his henchman Shredder. Initially the comics concentrated on the fighting element but over time humour and a sense of family has become more prominent, particularly in the films, and we see the turtles exchanging wisecracks with each other, chomping on pizza etc. They are joined in this set by Hippy Hippos from another planet and robot wolves created by Krang. The green text on the numbered backs gives further information as well as details of the album that was available to hold these cards. This set was also produced as a set of 6 with 2 pictures per card. Cards are size 68 x 36mm.
