First Aid 1938 (CCS reprint 2001)
First Aid 1938 (CCS reprint 2001) 50 - These monochrome cards with informative backs, originally issued in 1928, were designed to be stored in a medicine chest where we are told they would prove invaluable in the case of an emergency. The cards take us through basics such as equipment for a first aid kid and how to tie various slings and bandages, but then get\\\\r\\\\nserious as we are shown an x-ray of a fracture and encouraged to use household items including golf clubs, umbrellas and broom handles as splints. We are advised not to move the patient until the splint is secured, but frankly I would have thought it ambitious to move a patient with a fractured thigh or kneecap no matter how well splinted. We then learn how to approach an electric shock victim, treat choking, scalds, remove foreign bodies from ears and eyes, remove fish hooks from hands and what to use as antidotes to common poisons, then he last card graphically shows a lady on fire. A useful but somewhat scary set! Size 68 x 36mm.
