Sporting Profiles Film & Stage Stars Pre-1940 Movie Idols John Wayne Series 3 (War Films) 2010 Movie Idols John Wayne Series 3 (War Films) 2010 L15 - So prolific was the ‘Duke’, aka John Wayne the original tough guy, that Sporting Profiles have had no problem in putting together another fifteen posters featuring his starring roles in films. This selection starts with “The Sea Spoilers” (1936) and “Seven Sinners” (1940) followed by five great action movies set in World War II, the most famous of which is probably “Sands of Iwo Jima” with Wayne as the gritty Sergeant Stryker. The twelfth card has him in the all-star cast of the 1962 blockbuster “The Longest Day” and the final appearance “The Green Berets” (1968). The main actors in each film are listed on the backs. Size 78 x 60mm.

It has been said that nobody portrayed the cowboy better than John Wayne and all the favourite westerns are included such as The Sons of Katie Elder, which also starred Dean Martin, True Grit, Rio Bravo, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, How The West Was Won, Rooster Cogburn etc. Although titled Volume 2 this set has in fact been issued before Volume 1 (featuring his non-cowboy films). Sporting Profiles Film & Stage Stars Pre-1940 Movie Idols John Wayne Series 1 (Cowboy Films) 2007 Movie Idols John Wayne Series 1 (Cowboy Films) 2007 L20 - This is the prequel to Series 2 (issued in July 2006) which featured Wayne’s films released between 1944 ad 1976. Volume 1 now covers his earlier appearances started with ‘Haunted Gold’ in 1932 and culminating in the 1939 film ‘Stagecoach’ which was a huge critical success and brought superstar status for Marian Morrison (John’s real name). The fronts are colour reproductions of the original cinema posters and the casts are listed on the backs. Size 78 x 60mm.
