Sherman Film & Stage Stars Pre-1940 Famous Film Stars 1940 Famous Film Stars 1940 EL8 - This Welsh company ran a successful football pools business and issued these cards in 1940. These picture in full colour film stars of the era such as Joan Crawford, Erroly Flynn, Spencer Tracey, Myrna Loy, Mickey Roney etc. The backs are full of detail abut the star including weight, height and latest films. The card for Priscilla Lane, for instance, tells us she is “the athletic type rather than the frilly feminine, is a good tennis player and expert equestrian and is fond of wild flowers”. Apparently Margaret Sullivan’s hobbies were swimming and riding and we are told Errol Flynn is a direct descendant of Fletcher Christian who led the famous mutiny on the ‘Bounty’. Interesting and colourful these cards are size 134 x 94mm.
