Topps (UK) Films, TV, Sci Fi & Comic Art Superman The Movie 2nd Series 1979 Superman The Movie 2nd Series 1979 LT66 - Perhaps the best-known Superman actor was Christopher Reeve and these cards picture him in action as the ‘Man of Steel’. Superman is an alien who is sent to Earth for safety just before the destruction of his home planet and is adopted by famers and raised as their own. As he gets older he discovers he has super powers such as X-ray vision, super strength etc. and he uses his skills to help the people of Earth. By day he is a journalist on a paper, but when required he can transform from bespectacled mild-mannered Clark Kent into the tight wearing caped hero known as Superman. His chief protagonist is Lex Luther (played by Gene Hackman) who’s evil plans he must overturn whilst at the same time as romancing fellow journalist Lois Lane. The cards are numbered 67 to 132 as they continue on from the 1st Series also produced in 1979. Most of the backs make up into a sectional picture of the superhero who originally appeared in DC Comics but these are interspersed with Superman The Movie Fact Cards. For instance we learn that David Prose who played Darth Vader in the Star Wars films was responsible for turning Christopher into shape setting a gruelling workout every day and the movie took three years to develop. Cards size 89 x 94mm
