Churchman Ships & Shipping Life in a Liner 1930 Life in a Liner 1930 25 - This contains colour pictures of rooms aboard different liners whose names are given on the front and there are a mixture of functional rooms like the engine room or kitchen, 2nd and 3rd class rooms and of course the glamorous deluxe accommodation of the super-rich. The swimming pool on the “Franconia” and the smoking room on the “Bermuda” look decidedly masculine with dark wood and heavy furniture, by contrast the playroom on the “Melita” despite being for third class passengers is bright and airy with expensive looking toys. You can also compare the luxury of a private suite on the “Empress of Australia” with the cramped third-class cabin on the “Melita. The card featuring the ‘cabin de luxe’ on the “Cathay” tells us that accommodation on long-distance services to India and Australia was usually less luxurious than on the North Atlantic routes, but was specially adapted for the climate with inconspicuous ventilators keeping the cabin cool and pleasant. We loved the picture of the laundry room on the “Empress of France” which clearly employed a lot of women, but our favourite drawing is of the Palm Court on the “Berengaria” in which you could imagine characters from an Agatha Christie novel enjoying their afternoon tea. Size 68 x 36mm

Rockwell Ships & Shipping Cunard in the 1950s 2003 Cunard in the 1950s 2003 L10 - The 1950s were golden years for Cunard. With wartime austerity fading there was a boom in travel on transatlantic services dominated by the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth, plus a big expansion in cruise holidays. The two queens are shown in excellent colour artwork along with Carinthia III, Mouretania II, Sylvania II and so on, plus the Media, built by John Brown on Clydebank, which was Cunard’s first new post-war ship and was unusual for being first-class only on the Atlantic run. Descriptive backs. Size 79 x 62mm (this series was also issued in a smaller size).
