Morris Miscellaneous Cigarette Cards Wax Art Series 1931 Wax Art Series 1931 25 - The 25 cards show pictures of items that have been embellished with artwork produced using melted sealing wax, a hobby that would appear to have died out. The first card in the set features an ink pen holder and, in what we are told is a simple way of making it more decorative, it is smeared with heated yellow wax, then when this has dried flat a stick of red wax is melted and the pen held so the hot wax is melted into the places marked for flowers. After this has cooled you model it into the flowers and then repeat the process for the green leaves, whilst the crossed over ribbons are created by rolling and attaching strips of warm wax. This was definitely not a craft for children as there must have been a real potential for hot wax related injuries! If you could master the pen holder then a whole new world opened up as there does not seem to be much you could not add wax art to. The set shows examples of pendants, boxes, brooches, vases, tumblers, a paper knife and even a matchbox decorated with flowers and edging. The backs contain all the information you need to give it a go so if you are looking for a new hobby to fill a long winter evening then you need look no further!

Wix Miscellaneous Cigarette Cards Henry 5th Series 1936 Henry 5th Series 1936 L50 - Kensitas cigarettes, produced by J Wix & Sons, were one of the top brands for many years, helped no doubt by their innovative promotions. In 1935 they began issuing cards featuring the antics of a mischievous boy called Henry who was the invention of well-known American strip cartoonist Carl Anderson. Each colour picture was a complete episode in Henry’s life as he gets himself embroiled in some hilarious situations. Over an eightee- month period Wix produced five different series of fifty Henry cards, with this 5th series from 1936 being their last. The backs bear some outrageous claims, including “Kensitas – your throat protection against irritation.”. These charming colour pictures are sure to raise a smile. Cards size 78 x 65mm.
