Franklyn Davey Horse Racing and the Turf Hunting 1925 Hunting 1925 25 - Fox hunting remains a controversial subject but has been banned in the UK since 2004, however back in the 1920s when this set was issued it was not only popular, but the graphic pictures such as “Digging out a Fox”, “the Kill”, “Taking the Brush” and “Blooding a Youngster” would not have raised an eyebrow. The brown and white photographs, which include nice shots of horses and hounds, are backed with detailed texts telling you all you could possibly want to know about a pastime that has largely vanished from rural life. The cards are size 67 x 36mm.

Wilson Horse Racing and the Turf Hunting with The South Wold 2000 Hunting with The South Wold 2000 L10 - These colourful Hunting scenes were photographed in Lincolnshire with the South Wold pack, mostly along the former Great Northern Railway line which ran up the east side of the county to Grimsby, during the 1999-2000 season. For how much longer this activity will be around for is anyone’s guess, but meanwhile you can follow the red-coated horsemen and their hounds on these cards. They are numbered and have descriptive Backs. Size 79x62mm

Mitchell Horse Racing and the Turf Old Sporting Prints 1930 Old Sporting Prints 1930 25 - This set takes us back to the 18th and 19th centuries with a series of contemporary paintings and lithographs illustrating sports of the period – and some fascinating facts like when the third stump was added in cricket. We see bloody spots such as cockfighting and bare-knuckle boxing, horse-racing including the Grand National and the Derby, hunting, shooting and fishing. Surprising inclusions are two cards of mail coaches – the Edinburgh Express and the Brighton Day Mail which are hardly sporting topics. Packed with interest, this is a set to savour.
