Lipton Tea Flags, Arms & Maps Flags of the World 1966 Flags of the World 1966 60 - This is an interesting set which contains good colour pictures of national flags backed by facts about the country and the flag. For instance we are told that the flag for Ceylon (now known a Sri Lanka) was taken from the Sinhalese royal flag when the country became self-governing in 1946 but with two vertical stripes of green and saffron added in 1950 to better represent its diverse people. We are also told that the Dutch flag was originally orange white and blue in honour of the Prince of Orange, but the orange was later changed to red. There are interesting reminders of the age of the set and how quickly things change as Germany was still divided and we are shown the flag for West Germany, Aden was still a British Colony, Trinidad had only been independent for 4 years and Ghana, which became an independent republic in 1957, had altered its flag just two years before this set was issued. An album was also originally issued to accompany this set. Attractive and informative what more could you want. Cards size 68 x 36mm

Goodies Flags, Arms & Maps Flags and Emblems 1961 Flags and Emblems 1961 25 - As the title suggests this set contains flags and emblems, but there are some unusual inclusions and arrangements in this set. For instance the first flag is that of NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, who colours are made up of the blue of the ocean and a compass rose in a white circle signifying unity and peace. Also included is the S.H.A.P.E flag, the initials standing for Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers in Europe, the Admiralty flag, the flag of Trinity House who are responsible for all lighthouses and the flag of the Cinque Ports which is flown by the Lord Warden who at the time this set was issued by Winston Churchill. Also curious is the way badges are grouped together on one card, for instance Gibraltar and Malta are both shown on the last card, but they have nothing in common except they are both in the Med and why does Nepal have its own card, but Nigeria and Sierra Leone share a card? Also why Bolivia or Western Samoa but no Australia, America or New Zealand? Despite these puzzles this is a good set containing colourful cards with plenty of facts on the reverse. Size 68 x 36mm. This set was also issued in 1964 by Amaran Tea
