Mysteries and Wonders of the World 1st Series 1960
Issuer: Cooper And Co Condition: Mint * These are original and NOT reprints Description: The colour illustration in this set cover all manor of interesting or weird things, beginning with a volcano erupting and ending with the first astronomical telescope. Also included are the discovery of Tutenkamen’s tomb and the ‘Dead Sea Scrolls’, a Douglas X-3 travelling at three times the speed of sound, the first steam passenger railway in 1825, cave paintings in the caverns of Lascaux, moon rockets, an atomic power station, submarine, Sputnik and the Sphinx of Gizeh. These cards were originally available in packets of Coopers tea and they also produced a 2nd Series of Mysteries & Wonders of the World (see website for details of availability). The pictures are backed by informative text such as the fact that the caverns of Lascaux were discovered in 1940 when a dog fell through a hole and his owners went to rescue him. All good stuff! The cards are size 68 x 36mm. Number of cards in set: 25
