Modern British Locomotives 1954
Daily Ice Cream Railways Modern British Locomotives 1954 Modern British Locomotives 1954 24 - An excellent set printed in full colour with black frameline and white border. The subject title is printed on the front and there is plenty of information about the loco on the back which we are told is “Courtesy of British Railways”. Train spotters will be pleased to note that the locomotive number as well as its name (where it has one) is shown in the picture. In appearance these look not unlike old cigarette card issues and when this was reviewed in our magazine back at the beginning of 1955 the reviewer said “In fact one might almost say that this set, more than any other post-war trade emission has recaptured the spirit of our pre-1940 sets”. Included are an electric loco No 20003 of the Southern Region, a Diesel-Electric No. 10202, ‘King John’ No. 6026, No. 7012 ‘Barry Castle’, the Jubilee Class No. 45697 ‘Achilles’, No.35028 ‘Clan Line’, the ‘Royal Scott’ No. 46100, the world-record holding ‘Mallard’ No. 60022, No. 70000 ‘Britannia’, a V Class No. 30919 ‘Harrow’ and ‘Longworth Manor’ No. 7826 built in Swindon. Ideal for any train enthusiast the cards are size 68 x 36mm.

British Automatic Railways British Locomotives 1948 British Locomotives 1948 K24 - British Automatic, who were founded in 1887, manufactured coin operated machines for dispensing sweets and weighing people as well as the type of equipment found in amusement arcades on piers. For 42 years they had the contract for supplying machines used on British railway station platforms and public buildings. The weighing machines operated by standing on the base and inserting money and then a card would be dispensed with a date and your weight in stones and pounds. The other side would usually have a picture or horoscope. In this case the cards feature colour pictures of British locomotives such as a King class “King George V”, “Lulworth Castle a GWR Castle class, a diesel car of the GWR, an electric loco named “John Wycliffe, the sleek 7P class “City of Edinburgh”, a Princess Coronation class named “Duchess of Sutherland”, the world famous A4 class “Mallard”, the “Golden Arrow” London-Paris boat train and the Merchant Navy class “Channel Packet. The numbered backs contain instructions for weighing yourself, company name and a space in the middle for date and weight. The card backs contain a variety of different weights and dates whilst some have the space left blank. Small but beautifully formed these cards are size 55 x 28mm.

Granose Railways 150 Years of British Locomotives 1980 150 Years of British Locomotives 1980 M20 - This is a lovely set which covers locomotive developments from a replica of Stephenson’s Rocket of 1829 right through to a Inter-City 125 high speed train. The colour pictures are mostly taken at the National Railway Museum in York and include a North Eastern Bo-Bo electric loco of 1904, a G.W.R 2-8-0 of 1905, a Class A4 named Sir Nigel Gresley in tribute to the great engineer, a British Rail Class 9F ‘Evening Star’, 1960 diesel-electric, and Class 50 1967 diesel-electric. The backs give the type, date of operation and name of the locomotive concerned and tells you that “there is more fascinating information regarding this locomotive printed on a colour project poster which is obtainable by sending a 12p stamp with your name and address…” What is nice about this set is the number of diesel-electric trains which are sadly missing from a lot of train sets. The cards are size 77 x 58mm.
