Stan and Ollie’s cinema career began in 1926 and they made a total of 104 short and feature length films, the last being “Atoll K” in 1951. Their innocent, childlike characters and slapstick humour appeals to audiences of even today and you can see why in these cartoons showing the silly situations into which they get themselves. The numbered backs contain an advert for an album which could be yours for “1/6 and one box top” and also a cartoon head of the due with appropriate quote. For instance the card showing Ollie sweeping up leaves having accidentally poked Stan in the eye and the quote on the back has Ollie saying “Come on Stanley get your back into it” and Stanley replying “Oh Ollie is my eye not enough?” This set was also produced on a thick card in 1968 and on a paper thin card in 1972. The cards are 63 x 34mm and make a nice tribute to these legendary funny men.

River Wye (UK) Films, TV, Sci Fi & Comic Art Laurel and Hardy 70th Anniversary 1997 Laurel and Hardy 70th Anniversary 1997 LT90 - Laurel & Hardy are enduring favourites and this set celebrates the 70th anniversary of the comic duo’s debut in the 1927 classic ‘Slipping Wives & Duck Soup’ The first three cards, showing the two comics, studio boss Hal Roach and director James Perrott, are followed by stills from dozens of their films through to 1938 with sectional backs making up into colour posters. The remaining “behind the scenes” cards show the stars on set, socialising and on tour, including England in 1956. Strangely the same picture is used for cards numbered 73 and 75, but with different captions and what were they up to in Paris in 1942? Size 89 x 54mm.
