Kings Art Treasures 1938
Wills Royalty Kings Art Treasures 1938 Kings Art Treasures 1938 L40 - Back in 1938, King George VI gave permission to Bristol tobacco manufacturers W. D & H.O Wills to produce a series of forty cigarette cards featuring a selection of The King’s Art Treasures. Priceless would be the best word to describe these examples from the Royal Collection, with furniture, porcelain, gold and silverware, a Vulliamy clock, the Goodwood Cup, Queen Charlotte’s sedan chair and Windsor Castle’s State Bedstead, slept in, we are told, by Emperor Napoleon III and the Kaiser among others. The latest arrival at Windsor is on card no. 1 – a ‘lost’ royal cabinet given to the King by Lord Rothschild in 1910. Fabulous quality pictures and highly informative backs make this series a real treasure in its own right. Size 82 x 63mm

Fax Pax Royalty Kings and Queens 1985 Kings and Queens 1985 L40 - This excellent set looking at English royalty comes in its own box and is part of the Fax Pax range of ‘Knowledge in a Nutshell’ sets which are packed full of information. The colour images begin with Queen Elizabeth II and go right back to 1066 when William I (better known as William the Conqueror) seized power. The picture of William is taken from the Bayeux Tapestry, but other images are from monuments, stained glass and coins as well as the usual paintings. This is a fine history set with plenty of facts about the king or queen on the reverse. For instance we learn that George II (1727-1760) hated both his father and his own son and held a dislike for everything English preferring to spend much of his time in Germany or that William II (1087-1100) was killed while hunting in the New Forest. A fine historical set with cards size 102 x 64mm.
