Brooke Bond Aviation & Space History of Aviation 1972 History of Aviation 1972 50 - This is a comprehensive set which takes us through the developments in aviation from a Montgofier Balloon and Pilcher Hang-glider through to the Northrop HL-10 which is described as an experimental aircraft built for NASA’s space programme. The fronts contain delightful colour pictures whilst the numbered backs are full of information. Amongst other aircraft featured are the Wright brothers’ Flyer which was the first man-carrying flight, the Cornu helicopter which although unstable was the first to lift off the ground, the monoplane in which Louis Bleriot crossed the Channel, a German Fokker D.VII, a Cierva Autogiro which was a cross between and plane and helicopter, a de Havilland Moth like the one used by Amy Johnson to fly to Australia, a Hindenburg Airship, Short Empire Flying Boat, the iconic Supermarine Spitfire, the legendary Avro Lancaster, Messerschmitt 262, Russian MiG-15 jet fighter, Avro Vulcan, the Short SC.1 the first true vertical take-off and landing plane, a McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom, the very odd looking Canadair CL-84 a convertiplane with the best properties of a plane and helicopter, the iconic supersonic aircraft Concorde, a Hawker Siddeley Harrier a stunning vertical take-off aeroplane, and a Lockheed TriStar airliner. An album was also originally available to house this set. An excellent set with cards size 68 x 36mm
