Fax Pax Miscellaneous Trade Cards Historic Houses 1988 Historic Houses 1988 L40 - This is a fine set containing colour pictures of some of Britain’s most famous stately homes with plenty of historical and architectural information on the reverse. The cards come in their own special box and are part of the Fax Pax range of ‘Knowledge in a Nutshell’ sets. Among the gems featured are Woburn Abbey the first house to be developed as a tourist attraction, Traquair House in the Scottish borders, the iconic St. Michael’s Mount in Cornwall, George the IV’s extravagantly over-the-top Royal Pavilion in Brighton, Powis Castle in Wales, Osborne House on the Isle of Wight designed by Prince Albert, Longleat in Wiltshire better known these days for its safari park, Knowle in Kent which is one of the largest, Hatfield House in Hertfordshire where Elizabeth I was living when she became queen, Chatsworth in Derbyshire which has the highest fountain in the world, Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire where Winston Churchill was born, Blickling Hall in Norfolk once owned by the family of Anne Boleyn and Castle Howard in Yorkshire where ‘Brideshead Revisited’ was filmed. The facts on the back not only tell you about the building, but also about the family associated with them, for instance we learn that the 6th Duke of Somerset acquired Petworth House on his marriage to Elizabeth Percy, but was so proud he made his own children stand in his presence. A fascinating set with cards size 102 x 64mm.
