J.F.Sporting Collectibles Football Football Wartime Guests 1st Series 2011 Football Wartime Guests 1st Series 2011 LT36 - Football League, and home Internationals come to that, continued during World War II after the temporary ban in 1939, but with so many players called up for military services there was a good deal of “guesting” or player swap. Here we have thirty-six examples pictured in sepia head and shoulders photos, including Huddersfield Town’s Len Shackleton and Stan Mortensen (registered with Bradford Park Avenue and Blackpool respectively), Middlesbrough’s Matt Busby (registered with Liverpool), Spurs’ Wilf Mannion (Middlesbrough) and Arthur Rowley who made his debut for Manchester United alongside his brother Jack 5 days after his fifteenth birthday.
