They include Billy Malpass who made 155 appearances for Wolves, West Brom’s Jesse Pennington, who captained the team that won the First Division Championship, and star player Bill Bassett, Third Lanark’s Robert Barr, Sunderland’s Hughie Wilson who was signed for £70 in 1890, Jimmy Ross the Preston North End star who scored one of the goals in their 3-0 F A Cup final win, Liverpool’s Harry Storer who also played cricket for Derbyshire and Celtic all-time great outside-left Jimmy Quinn. The numbered backs contain a wealth of information regarding the player. Size 91 x 64mm.

J.F.Sporting Collectibles Football Football Personalities Pre Great War 3rd Series 2016 Football Personalities Pre Great War 3rd Series 2016 LT24 - This 3rd series has more black and white head and shoulders/upper body shots of footballers from the pre-Great War period. There are some interesting characters including Billy Meredith who moved from Manchester City to United after being suspended for illegal payments. He was described as a “Colossus with bandy legs” and earned his final cap for Wales aged 46. Then there’s Sheffield United’s goalkeeper Arthur Wharton who was probably the first mixed race player to turn pro. He was also a useful cricketer as was Leicester’s half back Teddy King. Leicester’s 2016 rivals Spurs are also included as Dundee born Harry Erentz, nicknamed ‘Tiger’, and his brother both played for the club. Also worth a mention are Bert Freeman of Burnley who helped them to F A Cup victory in 1914 (the first Burnley player to score 100 league goals) and Hearts inside-forward Bobby Walker, for many years was their most capped player who was later a director. J.F.Sporting Collectibles Football Football Personalities Pre Great War 2nd Series 2015 Football Personalities Pre Great War 2nd Series 2015 LT24 - A 2nd series of black and white pictures of players from the pre-Great War period. Included in this batch are Albert Wilkes who joined Aston Villa in 1898 and later became a sports photographer and music hall singer, Blackpool’s Harold Hardman who was also a practicing solicitor, a member of the Olympic team and later became Chairman of Manchester United, Scottish International and Everton player Jack Taylor who suffered a blow to his larynx in the F A Cup semi-finals which ended his playing career, George Wall of Manchester United who went on to serve in the Black Watch before moving to Oldham when the war ended, Fred Wheldon of Aston Villa who also played cricket for Worcestershire, Raby Howell of Liverpool who was famous as the first full-blooded Gypsy to be capped by England and Southampton’s Herbert Ward a fine all-round sportsman who later quit football to concentrate on cricket for Hampshire. These really were an interesting bunch and the numbered backs tell their stories. Size 91 x 64mm.
