Cohen Weenen Football Football Captains 1907-8 (reprint 1998) Football Captains 1907-8 (reprint 1998) 60 - This is a reprint of the 1908 set which contains surprisingly colourful head and shoulders pictures of players from the era. The numbered backs give a brief description of their club, position and playing style, for instance we learn that T. Crawshaw of Sheffield Wednesday played centre half-back and had been captain of his team for several season and won an English cup medal in 1906-07 or that A. Gardner of Newcastle United “is very prominent in his tackling, Is clever at heading and a good shot”. Also included are A.G. Morris of Notts. Forest who also captained Wales, J. Taylor of Everton who had apparently “a deadly shot at goal”, P. R Sands of Arsenal, Burnley’s F. Farron, Derby right half-back Ben Warren and F. Thorpe of Southampton who were then playing in the Southern League. An excellent set for any football fan with cards size 68 x 36mm.
