British Automatic Railways Famous Trains of the World 2nd Series 1952 Famous Trains of the World 2nd Series 1952 K24 - British Automatic, who were founded in 1887, manufactured coin operated machines for dispensing sweets and weighing people as well as the type of equipment found in amusement arcades on piers. For 42 years they had the contract for supplying machines used on British railway station platforms and public buildings. The weighing machines operated by standing on the base and inserting money and then a card would be dispensed with a date and your weight in stones and pounds. The other side would usually have a picture or horoscope. In this case the cards feature colour pictures of famous trains from around the world, all are overstamped “weight daily”, including British Railways “Devon Belle”, the Western Australian Government Railway “Boronia”, a Canadian Pacific Railway diesel-electric train, the Danish “Englanderen”, French “Blue Bird Express”, German “Flying Hamburger, an Italian State Railway electric train, South African “Royal Train”, Swiss “Red Arrow” railcar, and Union Pacific Railroad “City of Portland”. The numbered backs contain instructions for weighing yourself, company name and a space in the middle for date and weight. The card backs contain a variety of different weights and dates whilst some have the space left blank. Small but beautifully formed these cards are size 54 x 29mm.

Glengettie Tea Railways Trains of the World 1966 Trains of the World 1966 25 - This is a well-produced and colourful series of locomotives from around the world with descriptive text on the reverse. Among those featured are the Virginian R.R. USA Mallet Locomotive which as capable of hauling a mile-long train of coal, the Pennsylvania Railroad electric loco, New Zealand Government Railways Class JA locomotives, a French Visa-Dome railcar, the New York Central R.R locomotive 999 which broke speed records in the 1890s, a Dutch T.E.E. diesel, the French speed breaker BB 9000 loco, a Canadian 4-8-4 express, New South Wales freight loco, a South African Beyer-Garratt engine, a 4-6-0 express loco which used to haul mail between Bombay and Calcutta and the world famous “Mallard” which set a speed record of 126mph. This fascinating set was also issued by Hitchman’s Dairies and Ringtons Tea in 1970. A must for any train enthusiast with cards size 68 x 36mm.
