The three-colour artwork by Janet Reid beautifully captures each animal’s character in a variety of poses – head and shoulders, standing, with pups and so on – and each back describes a different attribute such as general appearance or temperament, or gives background information on history, care, etc. This set features cards of Cocker Spaniels and very cute they are too. \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\nSize 79 x 62mm.\\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\n

G D S Cards Dogs and Pets Dogs 2006 Dogs 2006 L20 - These colour pictures have a period look, demonstrated by the toy group where the Yorkshire Terrier, Italian Greyhound and Pug are shown in a formal setting with a Victoria-style tennis racquet and balls, and by the Terriers posing with a walking cane and gloves in the foreground. A mixture of singles, pairs and groups is an effective ploy which makes the series stand out from the other dogs sets. The texts describing various aspects of the breed give a suspicion of American origin. Size 80 x 62mm.

Phillips Dogs and Pets Our Dogs 1939 Our Dogs 1939 M30 - This set, produced in 1939, comprises superb colour paintings of dogs’ heads and seem to capture the animal’s distinctive personality. There is a brief write-up about the dog concerned on the numbered backs. We learn for instance that the Pointer was at one time indispensable to those who search the fields for snipe and that when the greyhound is speeding at full stretch its hind feet are implanted in front of the fore-feet. The artist of these captivating canines is sadly not known, but their work is incredibly well-observed and you can’t help falling in love with these delightful dogs. The cards are size 61 x 52mm.
