Bassett Miscellaneous Trade Cards Dandy / Beano Collection (Blue Back) 1990 Dandy / Beano Collection (Blue Back) 1990 48 - This set features characters from the popular children’s comics by D.C. Thomson of Dundee. The Dandy was first published in December 1937, but in 2012 went online before ceasing completely in 2013. One of the most popular cartoon characters in The Dandy was Desperate Dan a cowboy of superhuman strength with a love of cow pie who appears in this set along with characters from The Beano such as Denis The Menace, Minnie the Minx, the Bash Street Kids and Roger the Dodger. The Beano comic is still being produced and is now the longest running children’s comic. There is little information on the blue text back to explain pictures, but we are introduced to the characters. For instance we meet the mischievous Dennis the Menace who is “as hard as they come” and his dog Gnasher who “can make a tiger jump out of its skin”. The story is definitely not politically correct as we are informed that all these hard cases are scared because they don’t want to be picked as the Good Fairy in the panto, but lucky for them the effete Walter is happy to don the tutu. A 1st Series was produced in 1989 with black backs. These are excellent colour cartoons featuring all your favourite characters. Size 65 x 35mm.

Continental Candy Miscellaneous Trade Cards Snoots Nosy Bodies 1989 Snoots Nosy Bodies 1989 LT81 - A snoot is another name for a nose and these colourful cards for children feature different characters with a small nose shaped cut out in the middle designed so children could balance them on their noses. The backs contain a humorous description of the creature depicted on the front so for instance on the back of the picture of a fireman we are told “He puts out fires and tries to prevent them. Yes, he’s holding a nose smoking sign.” The card picturing a Roman surrounded by knives tells us “Let the fate of poor Julius Sneezer be a lesson to you..Be very careful when picking your friends.” The set also contains funny animal pictures known as Nosimals which are backed by jokes such as “Why shouldn’t you tell a walrus your troubles? He’ll just start blubbering” or “What would happen if Grandma invited a billy goat to lunch? He would eat the bread and butt her.” Also included is a checklist. A fun series to share with children with cards size 89 x 64mm.
