King George VI which took place in May 1937. It pictures members of the royal family including the Princess of York who later became Queen Elizabeth II and The Duke of Windsor who had been King Edward VIII before abdicating the throne in 1936, the Archbishop of Canterbury and Bishop of London who conducted the ceremony, pictures of the interior of Westminster Abbey including the Coronation Chair, the crowns, robes, state coach and other royal symbols of power, London views and properties associated with the families of the new King and Queen, York Cottage and Glamis Castle. There is plenty of interesting information on the numbered backs. The wording at the bottom of this set is “Chairman Juniors manufactured by the successors to R.J. Lea, Manchester, but this set was also issued with just the Lea name and was also available with a matt picture in both a “successors to” and “Lea” name back and also in a medium size with glossy fronts and “Tournament Cigarettes, R.J. Lea Ltd, Manchester” back. These small cards are 66 x 35mm.
