Neill Football The Lisbon Lions (Celtic European Cup Winners) 1999 The Lisbon Lions (Celtic European Cup Winners) 1999 12 - The “Lisbon Lions” is the name given to Glasgow Celtic’s team which beat Inter Milan in the Estadio da Luz on 25th May 1967 to become the first British side to win the European Cup. Steve Chambers (Number 9 in this series) scored the winning goal. Willie Wallace4 (No 8) scored twice in the semi-final, and then there’s Bobby Murdoch, Billy McNeill, Ronnie Simpson, etc. Eleven in all, plus manager Jock Stein – in first class colour caricatures with numbered black and white text backs. Despite the disappointing performance, Good Times have gone ahead with this card series featuring each of the 23 players in the squad plus manager Roy Hodgson and a title card which sets out the grim statistics – played three, lost two, drew one, total goals two (those thanks to Rooney and Sturridge).
