J.F.Sporting Collectibles Miscellaneous Trade Cards Seaside Piers in England and Wales in the 20th Century 1st Series 2009 Seaside Piers in England and Wales in the 20th Century 1st Series 2009 LT24 - This wonderful series of hand-coloured photographs shows Britain’s seaside piers in their pre-World War I heyday, with fascinating historical information on the reverse giving their history up to 1950, if they survived that long, what with fires, shipping collisions, storm damage and enemy action. The Grand Pier at Weston-Super-Mare, for instance, suffered major fires in 1922 and 1933, as did a more recent replacement, whilst the Clarence at Southsea, Plymouth Hoe Pier and Lowestoft South were all bombed in the blitz. Five Welsh piers and nineteen English make up the series, only a few of which are standing today. Size 90 x 64mm.

J.F.Sporting Collectibles Miscellaneous Trade Cards Seaside Piers in England and Wales in the 20th Century 2nd Series 2010 Seaside Piers in England and Wales in the 20th Century 2nd Series 2010 LT24 - J .F. Sporting have come up with some more early 20th century hand-coloured photos of seaside piers, among them the one at Ryde on the Isle of Wight which still today is served by a railway on which ex-London tube trains connect with ferries to Portsmouth, and the longest of them all, at 7080 feet, Southend Pier. Many along the south coast were breached during World War II as part of anti-invasion plans and many others have endured their share of storm damage and fires, so it's remarkable that so many survive to be enjoyed by today's holidaymakers. Size 89 x 64mm.
