Aston Cards Motoring Wimbledon Speedway Stars 1929-1939 (2002) Wimbledon Speedway Stars 1929-1939 (2002) LT24 - The stars in this set were all professional motorcycle speedway riders for Wimbledon Dons who raced at Wimbledon Stadium. These cards were issued when the ‘Dons’ had just reformed after an eleven year absence and picture riders from the golden age of the sport such as Australian Vic Duggan, Eric French, American Benny Kaufman, German Alfred Rumrich, Ron Howes, Wal Phillips, Syd Jackson, Vic Huxley who had transferred to Harrigay but returned to Wimbledon when the club resigned mid-season, “Cyclone” Billy Lamont and Jim Kempster. Sadly the backs contain no information on the riders except for name, date, club & country. The rest of the space is an advert for Thursday race nights and the slogan “Up the Dons”. Sadly by 2005 the club closed for good. Cards size 92 x 64mm.
