Birds and Flowers of the States 1991
Bon Air (USA) Birds, Butterflies & Moths Birds and Flowers of the States 1991 Birds and Flowers of the States 1991 LT50 - There used to be 48, then came Hawaii and Alaska in 1959 to complete the fifty United States of America. In 1982 the U.S. Postal Service produced a 20 cent stamp for each state depicting the state bird and flower. These have now been reproduced as a boxed set of cards which have interesting facts about the state on the numbered backs. Apparently the stamps were praised as the most attractive ever produced in that country. Enlargement to this size further enhances their appearance and you will learn more about America from the card backs than you would from a modern ‘A’ level course. Highly recommended. Size 89 x 64mm

Carroll Birds, Butterflies & Moths Birds c1940 Birds c1940 25 - Produced around 1940, but never actually issued, these cards contain lovely delicate colour artwork picturing British birds against appropriate backgrounds. There is plenty of information on the numbered backs which give details of habitat, how many eggs are usually laid etc. The text pulls no punches, for instance the Wood-Pigeon card says “Nothing good can be said of this bird” whilst the Kite is recorded as “somewhat cowardly”. Birds include the Green Plover, Reed Warbler, Tree Pipit, Oyster Catcher, Chiffchaff, Hooded Crow, Rook, Hawfinch, Pied Wagtail, Mistle Thrush, Sky Lark, Cuckoo, Sparrow Hawk, Magpie etc., but not common favourites like the Robin or Blackbird for some reason. A lovely set for any bird lover, size 63 x 38mm
