Westminster Tobacco Miscellaneous Cigarette Cards Australia 2nd Series (Plain back) 1933 Australia 2nd Series (Plain back) 1933 36 - This set was prepared around 1933 but never actually issued and pictures scenes from around Australia. Wills Miscellaneous Cigarette Cards Overseas Dominions Australia 1915 Overseas Dominions Australia 1915 50 - I am sure that many of these subjects would be unrecognisable to modern day Australians and nor would they take kindly to being listed as a dominion, but that said this is a charming little set which tries to give a flavour of the vast and varied country. The views of Sydney look very different without the usual Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, neither of which were built in 1915 when the set was originally issued. Some of the other views such as the Blue Mountains, The Devil’s Coach House and Cape Pillar are unchanged, but I am guessing that horse (or oxen) and carts are no longer used for harvesting wheat and collecting pineapples, logs, wool or sugar cane. Also whilst kangaroo are still sometimes hunted I doubt this is done on horseback with dogs and I do hope that the catching of turtles for their shells and food has long since ceased. The last card deals which something which sadly has not stopped – the threat of a bush fire – which is still a problem today. A lovely set size 68 x 36mm
