Cavanders Animals & Wildlife Animal Studies 1936 Animal Studies 1936 36 - The animals are pictured in sepia coloured photographs with a humorous caption underneath and there are plenty of cute shots to make you go ahh! Cats and dogs dominate, but the set also includes, chimps, a gorilla, a donkey, a lion, budgies and even a highland cow and calf. There are also a couple of inappropriate cards. One of these shows a small child riding an Alsatian, which is definitely not to be encouraged and the other is a lovely picture of nine black Labradors at a table, but sadly I can’t illustrate this either as the caption is unacceptable. Aside from this the set is charming and the captions really add to the pictures. The numbered backs contain the series title and explain that these were “Issued by Cavanders Ltd of London, England. The firm of Three Centuries. Established – 1775”, but sadly there is no information on the pictures or photographers. Lovely pictures for any animal lover. Size 68 x 36mm

Phillips Animals & Wildlife Animal Studies 1936 Animal Studies 1936 M30 - We just love the pictures in this set which have so much character they include the Indian Rhino, Lion, Tiger, Northern Fur Seal, Elk, Reindeer, Polar Bear, Indian Wild Boar, Elephant, Hippopotamus, Chamois, Walrus, Zebra, Tasmanian Devil, Puma, Red Kangaroo, Cheeta, and Black-backed Jackal many of which are today is in danger due to habitat loss or poaching. There are a couple of more familiar UK creatures too such as the Fox and Badger. The lovely colour pictures are backed by a small write-up about the creature concerned. For instance we learn that the Black-backed Jackal is the enemy of the sheep farmers who pay a reward of seven or sixpence per tail for its destruction. We are also told that the Puma is fond of horse-flesh, but is noted for its friendly disposition towards man – we don’t think it would be a good idea to put that to the test! The cards are size 60 x 53mm.
