We know him better under his pen-name Lewis Carroll, author of “Alice in Wonderland”. Some half a century later, in 1930, Carreras issued a series of 48 Alice in Wonderland cards. The cards explore the bizarre fantasy world in which Alice encounters characters such as The Cheshire Cat and The Grin, the Queen (off with their heads), the White Rabbit (too late), The Mad Hatter and The Mock Turtle, all beautifully illustrated in colour on a white background, on a thick card with round corners and an ornamental back. Double-numbered 1 to 48 and in 16 groups of three they are designed for playing a game. Size 78 x 62mm

Phillips Miscellaneous Cigarette Cards Beauties of Today (B D V Issue) 1939 Beauties of Today (B D V Issue) 1939 EL36 - Between 1937 and 1939 Godfrey Phillips issued seven series of Beauties of Today real photographs in extra-large format, this is the last of these, the ‘B’ printing with “issued with BDV medium cigarettes” on the back. The beauties in swimsuits or skimpy dresses, include well-known film stars such as Carole Lombard, Joan Blondell and Dorothy Lamour who would soon achieve greater fame co-starring with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby in the “Road” films. Quite racy in their day, I’m sure these pin-ups attracted more than a passing glance! Size 96 x 68mm
