Carreras Film & Stage Stars Pre-1940 Film Stars 2nd Series 1938 Film Stars 2nd Series 1938 54 - Features exclusively female subjects in black and white photographic poses which are quite racy for the period. Included are well-established stars such as Marlene Dietrich, Joan Crawford, Joan Blondell, Carole Lombard, Maureen O’Sullivan, Anna Neagle and Florence Desmond. But there is also a bevy of new glamorous stars who were to become wartime pin-ups boosting forces’ morale, Olivia De Havilland, Deanna Durbin, Betty Grable and Dorothy Lamour. The film studios are named on the backs, together with an advert for a slip-in album “obtainable from all tobacconists, price one penny”. Those were the days! Size 68 x 36mm

Ardath Film & Stage Stars Pre-1940 Film Stars Series GP2 1939 Film Stars Series GP2 1939 M44 - The cards show black and white pictures of glamorous ladies including big names such as Betty Grable, Ann Sheridan, Joan Blondell and Olivia De Havilland. ‘Film Stars’ is a misnomer as some, like Helena Garvin, are models, whilst others are showgirls from the Windmill Theatre. The rest are not well-known although some appeared in films such as singer Shirley Ross who was in ‘Some Like It Hot’. It says something about how obscure many are that Monica Bishop is listed as ‘able to stand-in for well-known star Victoria Hopper’? and Muriel Baron is a pantomime boy. Size 80 x 56mm.
