Masonic Trade Cards Co Miscellaneous Trade Cards Masonic Tercentenary Celebrating 300 years of British Freemasonry 2017 Masonic Tercentenary Celebrating 300 years of British Freemasonry 2017 EL24 - This set looks at the history of the Freemasons. The first card informs us that the Masons were formed on 24th June 1717 and that four local lodges met at The Goose and Gridiron public house, London, all the lodges being named after local inns where they met. This is followed by a drawing of Anthony Sayer the first Grand Master, a copy of the Book of Constitutions which was published in 1723, pictures of other Grand Masters, symbols etc. The card picturing Lord Ampthill says that a delegation of Freemasons travelled to meet their German counterparts before WWI and Lord Ampthill was elected a Honorary Grand Master of the German Lodges but later had to resign in order to fight. Also included is Freemasons Hall which has a library and museum open to the public and a drawing of Hitler who was bitterly opposed to the organisation and persecuted anyone associated with it. The pictures are not the best, but the text more than makes up for this giving an interesting behind the scenes look at a formerly secretive organisation. Size 105 x 74mm.
