Good Times Creations Football Silkmen Legends (Macclesfield Town F.C.) 2012 Silkmen Legends (Macclesfield Town F.C.) 2012 13 - On the river Bollin at the foot of the Pennines, the mills of Macclesfield were famous for their silk textiles, hence the nickname ‘Silkmen’ for the town’s footballers – and here are eleven of them, plus Sammy McIlroy the manager who won them promotion to the Football League, and a checklist. The likenesses of these full length colour caricatures are superb, and are set against a background of what appear to be well-filled stands. The ‘legends’ begin with Frank Beaumont back in the 1966/67 season and end with Richard Butcher (2010/11) who tragically died at the age of 29 – one of the facts we learn from the narrative backs. Size 68 x 36mm.
