Cardz (USA) Films, TV, Sci Fi & Comic Art Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (cartoon) 1994 Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (cartoon) 1994 LT100 - An unconventional story which became a 1970s cult book, radio and TV series on both sides of the Atlantic and also a card series illustrated in cartoon form. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy sets out to tell us “the answer to life, the universe and everything” and features Arthur and his new friend Ford Prefect who turns out to be from a small planet somewhere near Betelgeuse and not from Guilford! All very British humour, although the text-writer of these cards betrays his American origin with lines like “Prefect pays the pub bill for six pints of bitters, giving the bartender…” Good colour artwork with numbered backs, Nos. 53 and 100 of which are checklists. Card Size 89 x 63mm.

Promatch Football Premier League Footballers 4th Series 1999 Premier League Footballers 4th Series 1999 LT198 - Whilst broadly similar to this firm’s previous issues dating from 1996 to 1998, these caricatures are facially truer to life. The English Premier League players are featured on cards nos. 1 to 169, followed by a group of eleven (nd. SC1 to SC11) for Scotland (3 from Rangers, 5 from Celtic, 2 Hearts and 1 Kilmarnock) and the set is rounded off by 18 embossed cards (numbered SS1 to SS18) of stars from major continental clubs such as AC Milan, Lazio and Barcelona. Topps (USA) Films, TV, Sci Fi & Comic Art Robin Hood Prince of Thieves The Film 1991 Robin Hood Prince of Thieves The Film 1991 LT55 - The 1991 film was not the first time Hollywood had taken up the Robin Hood story, nor will it be the last we are sure. On this occasion the title role was given to Kevin Costner, one of “America’s most admired leading men”, with Christian Slater as Will Scarlet and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as Maid Marion. These cards show the principal characters and shots from the film, rather distractingly surrounded by a wood-and-vine frame. The romanticised mixture of fact and fiction is related on the numbered backs. Size 89 x 63mm.

Violence is the name of the game, and of this there is plenty, as displayed in these colour stills from the film Robocop 2, together with highlights from Robocop’s first adventure and eight “storyboard” cards showing pre-production work. With numbered backs which follow the story. Size 89 x 63mm.
