Inkworks (USA) Miscellaneous Trade Cards American Pride 2000 American Pride 2000 LT45 - America has much to be proud of and this series gives some powerful reminders of what the Land of the Free is all about. It is split into five sections “America the Beautiful” is followed by “American Icons” (jeans, baseball, the President etc.), “Monuments to Freedom” such as the Statue of Liberty, the Lincoln Memorial and the White House, “The Flag That We Love” and “Tour of America” (New England, the West and so on). The descriptive backs emphasise the country’s history, diversity and unity and include numerous quotations by famous Americans. Size 89 x 64mm.

Car & Driver (USA) Motoring Cadillac Collection 1993 Cadillac Collection 1993 EL100 - One of the great names in American motoring history, Cadillac began building cars in 1902 and won the R A C’s Dewar Trophy in 1908, with the first foreign car to win the coveted award. Success came at a price and the next year the firm was taken over by General Motors. This card set pictures in colour various models from 1903 to 1993, big beasts of cars with powerful engines and typical American styling typified by the outrageous rear-fins and “juke box” look of the 1950s and ‘60s. Descriptive backs have a separate section of technical data and a second picture illustrating a particular characteristic. Size 118 x 69mm.

The show is certainly a big success, now in its fifth season and having passed the 100th episode landmark in November 2002 so we can expect more adventures featuring the Halliwell sisters Prue, Piper and Phoebe who were raised by their grandmother, a powerful witch, who trained them in the use of their powers to become the Charmed Ones. The scenes and characters are on metallised cards with storyline or sectional backs. Size 89 x 64mm.

How this was achieved is shown in a sequence of eight “behind the scenes” cards towards the end of this series, which begins with profiles of the main characters followed by scenes with the story on the back and a section on gear and vehicles, all in the defence of planet Earth against mysterious alien predators. In all 179 episodes were made and it ran for six seasons from 1951 to 1957, but with re-runs around the world ever since it is now the most watched TV show in history, a lasting tribute to the comic genius of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. We are treated to black and white shots from the various episodes with a description of the scene on the back. Alas Lucy is long gone, having been in films and on radio since the 1930s, but “I Love Lucy” will go on and on. Size 89 x 64mm.

Skybox (USA) Films, TV, Sci Fi & Comic Art Sea Quest DSV (TV Series) 1993 Sea Quest DSV (TV Series) 1993 LT100 - This underwater adventure TV series set in the not-too-distant future has been a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. Sea Quest is a DSV or Deep Submergence Vehicle (a submarine to most of us!) in which former U S Navy Captain Nathan Bridges patrols the depths in “the most technologically advanced sub and science lab ever” aided by a talented crew which includes a dolphin called Darwin who can speak English via a computer and who acts as liaison between the Navy and the creatures of the deep. Needless to say, gripping adventures ensue, as we can see on these cards which tell the story on the backs. Size 89 x 64mm.

The colour photos of each of the twelve-man squad are surrounded by the team’s read and white striped colours. The other three cards feature manager Bob Stokoe, the Cup Final Programme and the Club’s honours. Pride of place goes to Ian Porterfield who scored the goal. Limited edition of 350 sets.
