Lychgate Press Miscellaneous Trade Cards Abandoned (Buildings in the North West of England) 2018 Abandoned (Buildings in the North West of England) 2018 L25 - This set, as the name suggests pictures abandoned and derelict buildings mainly in the Manchester area. The colour photos are all copyright to Philip Neill and are a mixture of horizontal and vertical. I guess these could be described as urban art and the cards are all are numbered on the front. The backs, except for card no. 5 which gives details of the buildings featured, make up into a large sectional black and white picture of the former Eva Bros tool makers site at Openshaw, Manchester. These monuments to Britain’s industrial past are size 80 x 60mm

Churchman Reprinted Series Interesting Door Knockers 1928 (CCS reprint 2000) Interesting Door Knockers 1928 (CCS reprint 2000) 25 - You would be forgiven for thinking this unusual set, originally produced in 1928, but reprinted in 2000, would be a study of ornate door fittings and whilst this is true in some cases many of the knockers are rather plain. The key to why these were included is that they adorned the door of a well-known building or a building where someone famous lived. For instance card number 25 features a knocker at Windsor Castle, whilst the simple knocker on card number 8 is revealed to come from the house where Charles Dickens wrote Oliver Twist. Another, at Craven Street, Charing Cross, takes the form of a head and may have been the inspiration for Marley’s Ghost in another Dickens tale, the Christmas Carol. That is quite a rare knocker, but by no means as unusual as that at Chepstow Castle which is an ancient cannonball suspended on two massive chain links. With plenty of interesting facts on the numbered backs this is a fascinating set. Size 68 x 36

Unstoppable Cards Films, TV, Sci Fi & Comic Art The Saint 2017 The Saint 2017 LT36 - The suave and sophisticated star of The Saint, Roger Moore, died in May last year, but we can see him again in this set where he appears as Simon Templar in the 1960s TV show The Saint. The set contains pictures taken from the programme with a different mini pictures and small write-up on the reverse. As with his later role as James Bond, he always seems to have a beautiful lady on his arm, but in this series he played a rich playboy adventurer and problem solver who was able to take on the sort of cases the police couldn’t handle. Whilst his motives were always good sometimes his methods were only just inside the law, but this was overlooked as he always got the baddies. The series which was based on the stories of Leslie Charteris proved very popular both in this country and abroad and apparently Roger supplied his own suits. Pure sixties nostalgia. Size 89 x 63mm.
