Under manager Ron Greenwood and an enviable youth system the Hammers had established themselves amongst England’s elite football clubs, culminating in their 1964 victory in the F.A. Cup, beating Preston 3-2 at Wembley, followed by a draw with Liverpool in the Charity Shield, and then, in 1965 they lifted the European Cup Winners Cup under captain Bobby Moore.
