Futera (UK) Football Aston Villa FC 2000 Aston Villa FC 2000 LT18 - Produced by Futera for issue only with Chuppa Chups confectionery, Villa were one of the five major League football sides to be featured in this format colour photos of 15 players on a team-coloured background with club emblem. Descriptive numbered backs. Stars include David James, Gareth Southgate, Paul Merson, Dion Dublin, Lee Hendrie (twice) and Ugo Ehiogu (also twice). The remaining three cards are the manager, the team emblem and a checklist. Size 89 x 64mm.

Popular with audiences and critics (the programme won the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation at the World Science Fiction Convention two years running), these cards picture all the main characters together with shots from various episodes backed by quotes from the script. Jim Smith worked wonders with limited resources and among the 15 cards picturing players we see record £2.7 million signing Haracio Carbonari, veteran Tony Dorigo, Stefano Eranio (then on a free loan from A.C. Milan) and so on. Manager, emblem and checklist round off the series. Size 89 x 64mm.

Whilst the 2001 series had straight forward numbering in this 2002 set each team has a separate identity code e.g. Arsenal A1 to A8, Aston Villa AV1 to AV6 etc. Otherwise the picture format is the same as the 2001 series with excellent colour action photographs and mini club emblem embossed in gold, with descriptive backs which include playing record and a small head and shoulders portrait. The backs, with “Trotters Independent Traders” at the bottom, give the fan club’s address, plus a description of, and a quote from, the character portrayed. Café owner Sid’s being his menu “egg and chips, egg sausage and chips, egg sausage beans and chips”. This show is a comedy classic which continues to attract large audiences despite being repeated umpteen times and these cards are a real treat for Trotter fans. Size 78 x 60mm.

Fleer (USA) Films, TV, Sci Fi & Comic Art Spiderman 97 without Fleer on front 1997 Spiderman 97 without Fleer on front 1997 L50 - Marvel comics Spider-Man character is one of their more imaginative creations. An ordinary young man, Peter Parker, is transformed after a bite from a radioactive spider giving him the ability to cling to any surface, crawl up the side of buildings, and catch criminals in his web. Here we see Spider-Man and friends Wolverine, Iron Man etc. grappling with villains with names like Carnage and Hobgoblin, illustrated in a comic-book format with numbered, descriptive backs. Although the pictures are similar in style to the Fleer Spider Man 1997 set, the subjects are different and the backs are in an entirely different vertical instead of horizontal style and Fleer’s name as issue does not appear.
