Watson Miscellaneous Trade Cards Norfolk Churches 2012 Norfolk Churches 2012 M56 - We’ve come across John Watson before with his two series of Taverns now he and fellow Norfolk artist Tony Strickland have turned their attention to the rich local ecclesiastic heritage with black and white pencil drawings of the county’s churches with details historical descriptions on the backs, 52 in all, the remaining four cards serving as checklists combined with biographies. The artwork is impressive, almost photographic in its detail, as you can see in our illustration of the church by the river green at Thorpe St Andrew. Size 90 x 60mm.

Watson Miscellaneous Trade Cards Taverns of East Anglia Series 1 2004 Taverns of East Anglia Series 1 2004 M52 - This is a collection of first-class drawings by John Watson of old public houses in Norwich and the surrounding district, with text backs describing their history. The reputed, oldest, the Adam and Eve, was built in 1949 to quench the thirst of workmen building the Norman cathedral, although the nearby Maids Head is the oldest English inn provable by documentary records from 1287. Alas the local brewers such as Morgans, Bullards, Steward & Patterson, Lacons etc, have all been swallowed up by the big boys since the war, although thank goodness, most of the pubs retain their historic names. Size 91 x 62mm.

Watson Miscellaneous Trade Cards Taverns of Norfolk Series 2 2008 Taverns of Norfolk Series 2 2008 L56 - John Watson’s pencil drawings of Norfolk taverns, 52 in this set, plus four more fronting the introductory cards which include one about John himself, provide a pictorial record of a rapidly shrinking trade as pubs close and are converted into houses or demolished for re-development. Luckily for us, John’s pictures and his thoroughly researched histories on the card backs will ensure they are not forgotten. This series compliments his earlier set from 2004, Size 89 x 63mm,
