Anglo Confectionery Aviation & Space Space 1967 Space 1967 LT66 - Produced ten years after the space age began with the launch of Sputnik 1 in 1957, is Anglo Confectionery’s series of 66 Space, compiled by L .J. Carter, a Fellow of The British Interplanetary Society. As such, the texts are full and authoritative in their descriptions of developments in space exploration to accompany the pictures from NASA and a variety of other sources. Here’s an extract from one of the cards : the tracking station at Robledo is so powerful it could detect the light coming from a Christmas tree bulb 22 million miles away. In a prophetic statement we are told “Pluto marks the outer limit of our Solar System, but who knows, there may be other even more distant worlds still undiscovered lying in the depths of space.” And sure enough, in 2002, Quaoar, half the size of Pluto was discovered, followed in 2003 by Xena, bigger than Pluto – and astronomers believe there could be hundreds of similar ‘planets’ out there. Size 89 x 64mm

Anglo Confectionery Films, TV, Sci Fi & Comic Art Tarzan 1967 Tarzan 1967 LT66 - The Edgar Rice Burroughs tale of an orphaned child who is raised by apes continues to provide material for films even today. Maybe it is because despite being found by his grandfather and returned to so-called civilisation he remained a wild-man and later returned to Africa where there was always some drama awaiting that required his special talents and bond with the animals. This set of colourful cartoons was based on the 1966 TV show which starred Ron Ely as the legendary apeman who along with chimp Cheeta and small boy known as Jai battles poachers and hostile tribes etc. The pictures are numbered with white borders and the backs make up into a large picture of the character and his companions. Card size 89 x 68mm

The cards are a mixture of cartoon drawings and real photos from the show. The basic premise of the story is that in 1980 Earth is visited by aliens from a dying planet who begin abducting humans to harvest for their organs which is maybe a precursor to an actual invasion. To combat this threat an organization known as SHADO is formed (which stood for Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation) with bases on the moon and on Earth. SHADO has its headquarters in a secret location below a film studio and its activities are kept secret from the general public to avoid panic.
