West Midlands Police Miscellaneous Trade Cards Pictorial History of Walsall and District 1986 Pictorial History of Walsall and District 1986 EL36 - These were issued as crime prevention hints and could be obtain from local police officers. The fronts contain copies of old sepia photos of people and places associated with the area. These include the Wheatsheaf Inn, Bloxwich c1860 which also pictures a policeman in his tall hat, the White Hart Inn, Caldmore, the Bull Stake, Darlaston c1923 where in times gone past bull baiting had taken place, Bescot railway station, author Jerome K. Jerome receiving the freedom of the borough, Brownhills Fire Brigade, the local saddle making industry c1910, a 1695 map of Staffordshire, the Bridge, Walsall with electric trams, Walsall railway station, a motor cycle rally through Willenhall in 1911 and a pony and trap being presented to nurse Sister Dora in 1873 by grateful railway workers. The backs give a brief write up concerning the building or people featured together with a different crime prevention tip such as “Do you really know who’s at your door? Don’t let him in if you’re not sure. Fit a door chain and use it”. There backs also contain details of the different companies which sponsored the production. These unusual cards are size 102 x 63mm.
