B.T. Ltd Native North American Indians and Cowboys The West 1966 The West 1966 25 - These cards feature illustrations of the old American West such as cattle rustlers, natives, gun fights, miners, fur trappers etc., with informative text on the back. For instance we learn that mining towns grew up overnight when deposits of gold or silver were found, but they attracted robbers and gun-fighters or that cattle rustling started when wild unbranded cattle were simply rounded up, but later when cattle were owned and branded and prices rose rustling, or stealing, became profitable and ranches had to employ bands of men to protect their herds. Alike series were produced by Burtons and Ringtons Tea. Size 64 x 34mm

B.T. Ltd Miscellaneous Trade Cards Do You Know 1967 Do You Know 1967 25 - This interesting and colourful set covers the sort of questions that these days we can easily find the answer to online, but in the 1960s, when this was issued, would require a trip to the library such as how a Brazil nut grows, how a grasshopper sings, how a nettle stings, how fast an ostrich can travel or why a billiard cue is bevelled. Comprehensive explanations are given on the card backs. Our favourite has to be ‘Why a horse-shoe is used for luck’ as this has a local connection. Apparently these are considered lucky because legend says that St Dunstan, who was born just down the road, was noted for his skill in shoeing horses and he shoed the devil’s hoof, but this caused the devil so much pain he vowed never to enter a place where a horse-shoe was displayed – so now you know! This set was also produced by Ching & Co., Cromwell Stores, Ovaltine, S. Prior and Sweetule Products and was also part of a set of 50 produced by Liam Devlin & Sons – see website for availability. This set is size 68 x 36mm.
